Writing Assignment “My Name"

Love From Parents

My name is Ka Wai Cheung. Ka Wai was named by my parents, and I love my name because of the meaning. My name Ka means home in Chinese and Wai means great. My parents told me that I don’t have to become a famous or a successful man in the world, but I must become the greatest one at home. My name is uncommon, and it is rare. It also is easy for people to say my name.

My name is not similar to any member of my family. This name is unique for me. My parents told me that they want to name me Jia Hao, but it is too common. It had a similar meaning to Ka Wai, but it is hard for people to say my name. Luckily, they decided to name me Ka Wai instead of Jia Hao.

When I was still living in Hong Kong, people like to call me by my English name Andy rather than Ka Wai because it is shorter and easier for people to say. I still like my name Ka Wai, and I wouldn’t change it in my life. For me, the name that parents give their children is filled with their love.

  7. It's great that you have such a positive attitude towards your name, Ka Wai! Your name has a meaningful and personal connection to your parents and family, and it sounds like they chose it with care. It's also great that people are still able to call you by a nickname, Andy, if they find it easier to say. Overall, what's most important is that you love your name and feel proud of it.
