Simple Name

    I am Chinese. My Chinese name is 小姗. My Chinese name sounds like 山 because 小姗 and 山 have the same pronunciation in Chinese. Because of the same pronunciation, my classmates always laughed at my name when I was a child. My mother has a different idea. She thinks that hills are very solid. She also wanted me to grow up as strong as a hill. Just as she wished, I am getting stronger and stronger. I immigrated to the United States one year ago. To integrate into American life, I got an English name. My English name is Sami. I was named after a singer who is a famous singer in China. I like her songs very much. Another reason I chose this English name is that it is easy to remember. An easy name can help people to make new friends. Nobody can remember a complicated name the first time they hear it. Sami is a common name, but I like it. I wish I can be a lucky Sami and have a good life in the United States.
