My name in Chinese 嘉明, in English people use to compare it to the iOS assistant Siri. Each letter stands for something. 

  • S stand for Strength, there when needed. 

  • I stand for Innovator, always improving. 

  • R stand for Rich, in love from others and money. 

  • Y stand for Yes, always open to new possibilities. 

But in Senegal, my name means kindness, mystery, something very special that people cannot find a good word to qualify it. Siry came from Saint louis, which is a region of Senegal. My name belongs to my grandma who is my father’s mother. Like me, she likes her name. From 1880 to 2022, less than five people per year have been born with the first name Siry. I got this information from my grandmother. It is rare to meet someone with this name Siry but when it happens, the name is attached to another first name like Gayessiry. People cannot read without the antecedent in this case. Because it’s always been like this for generations and generations. However, for me it is just Siry, and I love it like that. It is easy to say, and one out of a hundred thousand people have got this pretty name. I am so glad that my parents chose this name for me. Whether in the United States or in Senegal with or without the antecedent it is a name that people hear very rarely. I love it, it suits me, and it belongs to me. I don’t want to change it in anyway.
